It’s that time of the year when exams start to roll around. Whether it’s a high school, university entrance or uni exam, the process is similar for many people – studying around the clock to ensure you get the best grades possible. And then the stress sets in.
Too much stress can affect your health, and it’s often too late by the time we realise this. Common effects of stress include headaches, anxiety, appetite issues, tension, restlessness, lack of motivation and fatigue amongst so much more.
So how do you combat the stress caused by exams?
One of the best ways to beat study stress is to simply take a break. Stepping away from your books and getting out of the house or turning your hand to something different allows you time to relax and ease any tension.
Taking a break away from study looks different for everyone. Some people simply like to take some time out to read in the sun, while others look for more adventurous activities to take their mind off all the facts and figures they need to memories.

Study Stress Beating Tips
We’ve all been through exam stress, so we’ve put together our top 6 stress busting tips to help you relax and get the most out of your study sessions.
- Read for fun
If all you’ve been doing for the last few weeks (or months) is studying for your exams, take some time out to read for fun. Whether you choose the latest bestseller or an old favourite, make yourself a cup of tea or coffee, find somewhere comfy to sit, and get lost in another world.
- Get some sunlight
One thing we all remember about studying is getting stuck indoors in our rooms or in a library corner somewhere trying to get all those facts to stick. There are some great benefits to getting out in a sun for a little while each day. Sunlight boosts the melatonin in your body which in turn, gives you a mood boost, relieves stress and improves your sleep. You don’t need a lot of time in the sun to get the benefits – and remember to slip, slop and slap so you don’t get burnt!
- Take a holiday
Holidays are a great way to beat study stress – especially if you leave the books at home. Choose somewhere you’ve never been before and do something you’ve never done but always wanted to (see point 4 below). Your holiday doesn’t need to be an expensive getaway overseas. It could be an easy weekend getaway to snap a selfie with the quokkas on Rottnest Island, or climbing the Harbour Bridge in Sydney.
- Do something new
Finding something new to do and having fun while doing it is a great way to leave behind the books. A new activity can provide a good kind of stress – one that keeps you feeling alive and refreshed. We need this regularly to help keep the “bad” stress at bay. It may be as simple as discovering somewhere new while out riding a bike, or an activity like discovering a new city or new town.
- Get your heart racing
If you’ve ever needed to forget about stress, jumping out of a plane with an amazing view is a great way to do so. Skydiving has so many health benefits, including as a stress relief. When skydiving, you are so focussed on what you are doing (and so focussed in taking in that view), that you forget everything else going on. The big benefit is that an adrenaline rush will give you a clear mind to get back into your study when you are ready to.
- Exercise Regularly
Regular exercise is a great way to beat stress. Going for a run, a swim or hiking through the bush gives you a chance to not only get some sun but also gives you a chance to relax and forget about studying for a little while. Did you know that Rottnest Island has 45km of trails to explore? Skydiving also has plenty of physical benefits including building upper arm strength and working the lower body.
It’s easy to get bogged down in the stress of your exams. Whether you have end of year exams looming, or are getting prepared for your end of semester or mid-semester exams, why not take a break and try something new?
Book a Rottnest Island getaway and try your hand at skydiving with Skydive Geronimo. With plenty of health and stress busting benefits, you’ll find yourself going home refreshed and ready to ace your exams.
